Hello and thank you for your interest in In Cahoots Residency! We look forward to reviewing your application.

In Cahoots Residency is designed for people who have prior experience in art and/or writing. A portfolio of 8-10 images of artwork (or 1- 3 writing samples, a total of 10 pages or less) is required for the application. You must be 18 years or older to apply. With a focus on community and inclusion, we welcome adult artists of all ethnicities, religions, ages, physical abilities, gender, financial status and educational backgrounds. For artists who choose to apply as a collaborative team, each artist should complete a separate entry form with all required information, and make a clear note on the application that you are applying as a team.

Grant Applications are accepted twice a year. Twenty full and partial grant awards are available each year: ten for residencies taking place between January and May 2023 (deadline June 1, 2022) and ten for residencies between June and December 2023 (deadline October 1, 2022 or November 1 for CBAA applicants). Applicants only need to fill out one application form. Those who are not awarded grants will automatically be considered for a regular (non-grant) residency. No grant applications will be considered after the deadlines.

The Full and Partial Grant Residencies are designed for artists for whom this residency experience would otherwise be out of reach financially. The full grant covers the entire residency fee, but does not cover travel, specific materials, or food. We welcome applications from all artists with financial need, but especially emerging artists/ writers with less than 10 years of experience in the field, artists of color, recent students, those who are returning to art after another career, and adjunct teachers.

During regular sessions, we do not allow spouses, pets and children to attend with artist residents. However, there are two spouse-friendly sessions (additional fees apply, does not include studio use for spouse) and three dog-friendly sessions (limit one dog per artist, additional 100 dollar cleaning fee applies). Artists applying for these sessions understand that other residents may be bringing spouses or dogs.

Applications are accepted twice a year: June 1 and October 1. Applications open 5 weeks before each deadline.
June 1, 2022 deadline: for residencies taking place from January to May of 2023. Application period is April 27- June 1, 2022.
October 1, 2022 deadline: for residencies taking place from June to December of 2023. Application period is August 27-October 1, 2022, but extended to November 1, 2022 for CBAA applicants
Only College Book Art Association scholarship applications will be considered after the October deadline (until November 1).

There is a $25 application fee, payable upon completion of the form.

Notification of acceptance/denial will be sent out 6-8 weeks after the deadline. Your application will automatically be considered for the regular application if you are not awarded a grant. Partial grants may be awarded for applicants applying for a full grant if funds are available.

Notes on deposit: If accepted, a 200 dollar holding deposit is due at the time of confirmation to hold your dates. If you choose to cancel or reschedule your residency session, this deposit will be forfeited. Upon arrival, this deposit will act as your security deposit and will be returned to you after the end of your residency stay, minus any damages.

Notes on COVID-19: We are currently hosting socially distanced residencies. With individual housing, we have been able to stay masked and 6 feet apart in the studio spaces. We clean the shared spaces carefully and are vigilant about keeping social distance. If the pandemic lasts until your residency session and you are unable to attend, we will work with you to reschedule your session for a later date. The deposit will be credited towards a future session for one round of rescheduling. Unfortunatly, the grant will be forfeited.
