Hello and thank you for your interest in In Cahoots Residency! We look forward to reviewing your application for residency in 2023. (Please note: to be considered for a grant, do not fill out this application. INSTEAD you must fill out the grant application form.)
In Cahoots Residency is designed for people who have prior experience in art and/or writing. A portfolio of 8-10 images of artwork (or 1- 3 writing samples, a total of 10 pages or less) is required for the application. You must be 18 years or older to apply. With a focus on community and inclusion, we welcome adult artists of all ethnicities, religions, ages, physical abilities, gender, sexual orientation, financial status and educational backgrounds. For artists who choose to apply as a collaborative team, each artist should complete a separate entry form with all required information, and make a clear note on the application that you are applying as a team.
During regular sessions, we do not allow spouses, pets and children to attend with artist residents. However, there are specific spouse-friendly sessions (additional fees apply, does not include studio use for spouse unless they apply separately) and specific dog-friendly sessions (limit one dog per artist, an additional 100 dollar cleaning fee applies). Artists applying for these sessions understand that other residents may be bringing spouses or dogs.
Applications are accepted twice a year: June 1 and October 1. Applications open 6 weeks before the deadline.
June 1 deadline: for residencies taking place from January to May of 2023. Application period is April 27- June 1, 2022.
October 1 deadline: for residencies taking place from June to December of 2023. Application period is August 27-October 1, 2022.
Notification of acceptance/denial will be sent out 4-6 weeks after the deadline.
There is a $25 application fee, payable upon completion of the form.
Outside of the application periods listed above, applications are accepted on a rolling basis for any remaining spots in the current calendar year, or to fill a cancellation. For rolling admissions, please check the availability calendar before proceeding with this application. Applications are closed June 1- July 1 and October 1- November 1 for jurying. Artists applying on a rolling basis will be notified of acceptance/denial within 2-4 weeks of their application. The residency calendar will be updated to show any available dates, and you are encouraged to email the residency to confirm these dates before sending in an application.
Notes on deposit and payments: If accepted, a 200 dollar holding deposit is due at the time of confirmation to hold your dates. If you choose to cancel or reschedule your residency session, this deposit will be forfeited. Upon arrival at In Cahoots Residency, this deposit will act as your security deposit and will be returned to you at the end of your residency stay, minus any damages. Your residency fee will be due 60 days before your residency start date.
Notes on COVID-19: We are currently hosting socially distanced residencies. With individual housing, we have been able to stay masked and 6 feet apart in the studio spaces. We clean the shared spaces carefully and are vigilant about keeping social distance. If the pandemic lasts until your residency session and you are unable to attend, we will work with you to reschedule your session for a later date. The deposit and residency fee will be credited towards a future session.
