Echo, a nymph
whose love for Narcissus
caused her to pine
til nothing
but her
voice
remained"
This definition - more like poetry - has lived in my head for 30+ years since reading it in one of my many dictionaries long ago.
I love & collect dictionaries, as they primarily serve to remind us that even what we consider to be FACT often is still is not without subjectivity.
The poetic choice of words enchanted me at the time, & the phrase has lain dormant, patiently waiting & stewing, until now.
I interpret this Greek myth as a cautionary tale, one for women of all ages, & offer this talisman of protection and agency, to strengthen resolve or help retain one's voice and bodily autonomy in a time when others endeavor to take it from them.
