About this print:
A child-like play is a constant theme in my work, showing up in curious ways. I am interested in the recollection and confrontation of distressing memories, where they are stored and how they come back. The woodblock used to print this image was an old table top from a community print studio. The cuts, scrapes, and paint chips, held rich scars of use. Memories of makers before me used this surface, and it felt only natural to print that history. I began researching play therapy, objects used and questions that are asked in this type of therapy. Objects such as building blocks, used on tables and in rooms kept playing over in my mind. I cut my prints into the same size and shapes of play blocks, mounted them to paper, and am excited about this new direction of building my own imagined shapes, objects, and more.
