About this print:
In early January 2020 I was working toward an exhibition of my work, creating large scale relief monotypes using huge laser cut images of leaves I have found. When COVID hit, and the tech shop I worked in to create the images in wood closed, I was stuck. The beauty of tree branches without leaves against the sky has always inspired me. On a family walk, my daughter pointed out some very flat looking branching plants. They were perfect for printing, so we gathered some. The long branches were very expressive, and I was able to print and ink them just like wood. It started a new series of which this piece is a part. It will remind me forever of that time, the somber solitude of sheltering in place before the spring came.
